MM&I photographs this local favorite playing his bagpipes on the street during his break.
I encountered the guy (I didn't know his name was Charlie) a few years ago when I was having a horribly shitty day and his dedication to his instrument totally changed my mood (no homo). There's something about the bagpipes that makes me feel good not only because the Scottish and the Irish haven't really oppressed many people other than themselves but also because it sounds like kittens being beaten and that thought always makes me smile. Anyway, take a look at her photos and, as always, hail to the bus driver man.
I love the pipes!
ReplyDeleteHe occasionally practices in the Bus Stop Plaza (homeless dumping ground) across from my workplace.
Stirs my soul to walk out to the parking garage and hear the sound of bagpipes wafting through the air.
My people's music!!
I can smell the heather in bloom!
I can feel the warm summer breeze blowing up my kilt. Oh shit. That was gay. Sorry.
I can feel the two-handed broadsword in my hand as I lop off the head of my opponent, feel The Quickening, and exclaim "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!"
There. That's better.

ReplyDeleteIt's funny you should say that. I think of the the bagpipes as the sound of the British Empire's most fiercesome skull cracking oppressors - the highland regiments. It reminds me that Britain (and you were there joining in as well Scotland) used to oppress about a quarter of the worlds population, which is loads more than you yanks have yet managed (formally anyway) or the Spanish ever managed for that matter. Get a move on. Iran is next I've heard.
Put Pipers at the front of your army. We found it inspires the grunts and scares the shit out of the natives, who think kittens are being tortured as a warm up.
"Ahhh. I love the sound of tortured kittens in the morning.
ReplyDeleteSounds like...Victory!"
Apologies to Robert Duvall and victims of oppresion evrywhere.
But I still like the pipes.
